Deux raisons rendent cet examen utile. Si l\u2019enqu\u00eate sur les documents d\u2019archives conduit d\u2019un c\u00f4t\u00e9, au constat de l\u2019impact des fortifications sur la forme g\u00e9n\u00e9rale de la ville, elle d\u00e9voile d\u2019un autre c\u00f4t\u00e9, l\u2019immense foisonnement des id\u00e9es du g\u00e9nie militaire qui en \u00e9tait responsable. Ce travail veut surtout souligner la capacit\u00e9 du g\u00e9nie militaire \u00e0 entrer en n\u00e9gociation avec les autres corps d\u2019\u00e9tat et surtout avec l\u2019\u00abadministration civile\u00a0\u00bb.
